my emotional response for Hurtlocker Sandborns breakdown scene
This scene makes me feel uncomfortable and sympathetic towards sandborn up until this point he has been a very calm and strong man and has dealt with life threatening situations well. This scene shows how he realises he has nothing to remember him by and he will die with nothing to leave no legacy in a way. The reason i think thi scene makes me feel uncompfortable is because the cinematography is the same throughout the whole conversation of both men it makes me feel as if i am spying on the conversation it gives you a voyeristic feel to the scen like this is a private conversation and we should not be there as up to this point sandborn and James are seen as very masculine and they are crying and talking. The sounds makes me feel sympathetic also as the music is practically not there it is so faint so it sets the mood so you can hear this conversion.

My emotional response to American history X
The first scene that caused emotions for me was the scene where Edward Nortans character stamped on his black attackers head on the curb, the emotions that it caused were for me to be horrified and uncomfortable, these emotions shaped my response as part of me wanted to turn around however i watched because i wanted to know what happened as i hoped someone would intervene. The way the film caused these emotions was through its micro features such as sound as you hear the bone cracking sound as the mans neck snaps also the long shot that was done does not show a massive amount of violence its the fact your imagination can guess what has happened causes these emotions.
Another scene that caused emotions was the scene where the fat man (I forgot his name) was singing an extremely racist and ignorant song my emotion was humour and uncomfortable as what he was saying was wrong however he is so ignorant its funny. My response to these emotions was laughter as he is so stupid i could not help but laugh at him. My emotions were caused by the mans performance as his role is a completely ignorant racist and he pulls it of well also him as a character caused my emotions because everything about him is funny.
My final scene is he scene at the end my emotions were sad as the boy was on a normal path he was not racist and becoming normal so it was a shame for him to get shot as he was putting his life back together. My response was pretty blank to be honest however my emotions made me feel sad i did not want him to die but the way the black men followed him around had a sense of foreboding. My emotions were caused by good cinematography because as the boy turns around we get a point of view shotr of him and his attacker and the only thing that goes through your mind is he's gonna be killed the minute the attacker raises the gun this sense of death is confirmed causing an emotional response.
The experience my emotions gave me through the film were good ones because their were funny bits and sad mits that come in at the right times to empaphise and sympathise with the characters annd in a way makes the viewers expeiriance better as the film fuels your emotions.

Irreversible
The concept of a film that goes backwards telling a story s a good one i like this idea it can be used for many films and that is what i like about this film. However the explicit images we see and subjective camera shots makes us feel like we are spying on the protagonists for instance the way the camera is framed in the rape scene makes us feel helpless as we see everything yet are useless to help her. I also feel that the film has a lot of gruesome features such as when Marcus dies that would make anyone feel sick i believe this is the type of film that haunts you for a while after viewing

H/W
There are may different interpretations of genre, genre can be classed as what type of film the film you are watching is for instance, Step brothers is a comedy. Genre also allows the audience to identify conventions in the film and therefore may know what is going to happen for instance horror the codes and conventions would be scary location and a villain Ect. However some genres are hybrids such as dog soldiers is a horror/black comedy also people can identify a genre as their favorite type making that type of film their favorite genre.
Genres are flexible. Subjects to a constant process of change and adaptation. Because different audiences will use genre in different ways at different times, its boundaries can never be rigidly, and at the same time is susceptible to extensive subdivision. (Richard Maltby 1995)

Genre is also important as it allows an audience to identify what may happen in the film I.E the story or the structure or even what’s going to happen.
It is relatively easy for an audience to identify genre for instance Horror is a relatively easy genre to recognize because of its codes and conventions as they are similar in all types of film like the codes and conventions of a scary setting or a villain/monster a victim these types of things allows the audience to see what is coming up going to happen or even what may happen.
